Having completed an Advanced Master of Biological Anthropology with Honours in 2016, Ben Gleeson is now working towards a PhD in Human Ecology at ANU’s Fenner School of Environment and Society. His research continues to explore human self-domestication and our adaptation to a sociocultural niche. Ben lives beside Monkittee Creek in Braidwood, NSW.

The evolution of ‘Man’: Hard science and human masculinity

While we discuss and debate our diverse cultural and personal constructions of masculinity, it’s worth bearing in mind that the evolutionary evidence also suggests a certain fluidity. What it means to be a man has changed, across history and prehistory, in both cultural and biological terms.
